Summary

The brand new unmissable crime thriller from Holly Jackson, best-selling, award-winning author of the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy。

Eight hours。
Six friends。
One sniper 。 。 。

Eighteen year old Red and her friends are on a road trip in an RV, heading to the beach for Spring Break。 It’s a long drive but spirits are high。 Until the RV breaks down in the middle of nowhere。 There’s no mobile phone reception and nobody around to help。 And as the wheels are shot out, one by one, the friends realise that this is no accident。 There’s a sniper out there in the dark watching them and he knows exactly who they are。 One of the group has a secret that the sniper is willing to kill for。

A game of cat-and-mouse plays out as the group desperately tries to get help and to work out which member of the group is the target。 Buried secrets are forced to light in the cramped, claustrophobic setting of the RV, and tensions within the group will reach deadly levels。 Not everyone will survive the night。

I think the most important thing to know is that this is a completely different vibe than the A Good Girls Guide to Murder series。 This is straight up a fast-paced, one-night thriller。 It was nice to see Jackson flex some different muscles, and while I don't think it's quite as good as her series it was enjoyable to read。 It took me a minute to get into it - I didn't love our MC, but once I hit the 30% mark it really started to pick up and I read the rest of it in one sitting because I just had I think the most important thing to know is that this is a completely different vibe than the A Good Girls Guide to Murder series。 This is straight up a fast-paced, one-night thriller。 It was nice to see Jackson flex some different muscles, and while I don't think it's quite as good as her series it was enjoyable to read。 It took me a minute to get into it - I didn't love our MC, but once I hit the 30% mark it really started to pick up and I read the rest of it in one sitting because I just had to know what was happening。 I did not see any of the big reveals coming, which is quite impressive。 Overall, a fun YA thriller。 I don't think it will be for every fan of the series, but if you like YA thrillers and her series, be sure to pick this one up! Oh my god。 This book is INTENSE! I stayed up until 12:30 finishing it because I couldn’t put it down。 Just wow。 Fabulous read。 I was provided an advanced copy of this book which did not affect my review。

I really enjoyed this book。 I loved that it was set over the course of one night。 It was very fast paced with lots of twists and turns I didn’t see coming。 I liked how even though the book took place over a short time, the characters were fleshed out well。 I would definitely recommend this book。

3。75 stars! This book didn’t captivate me the way I was hoping it would。 It was a GOOD thriller, and had twists that I wasn’t expecting。 I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters and I think that’s why this isn’t a higher rating for me。 It was a fast paced read and very action packed as well。 I also enjoyed the ending and felt like it tied up the book really well! Stick with it, the pay off of this book is worth it。 Holly Jackson captivated us with the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series, and just know that this is not that series。 But she’s earned her spot as a go to thriller writer for me。 Five Survive started slow and I nearly put it down a few times, but at about 59% it hit its stride and I finished the rest in one sitting。 Excellent - and I hope there’s a follow up coming soon。

This will be great for those of you who love locked room mysteries with high stakes。 But I definitely preferred the author’s debut series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder。 That being said, it’s a sure thing that I will pick up this author again。2。5 starsFull review to come。** I received a finished copy from the publisher (thank you!) in exchange for an honest review。 **

Five stars for the five that survived。I actually got popcorn for this read and let me tell you that it was a perfect decision especially for the last 150 pages of this read。This story had me by the throat and I lost sleep because I stayed up all night reading it。 I don't regret that choice at all。 I NEEDED to know what was going to happen and there was no way I'd sleep peacefully without knowing。 This book is 100% a pure, exhaustive, edge-of-your-seat kind of thriller。 The entirety of it tak Five stars for the five that survived。I actually got popcorn for this read and let me tell you that it was a perfect decision especially for the last 150 pages of this read。This story had me by the throat and I lost sleep because I stayed up all night reading it。 I don't regret that choice at all。 I NEEDED to know what was going to happen and there was no way I'd sleep peacefully without knowing。 This book is 100% a pure, exhaustive, edge-of-your-seat kind of thriller。 The entirety of it takes place in an RV with six teens and young adults on their way to a camping site。 The claustrophobia of this 31-foot RV and the life or death situation they find themselves in had me finish this book in one sitting。 I don't know how but somehow in a span of 400 or so pages, Holly Jackson fleshed out the six characters to a shocking degree。 It felt so damn real and I was reacting to their behaviour and choices so easily。 I was absolutely livid at some of the characters and overwhelmed with sadness for others。 AND THE TWISTS。UGH - I was breathless。 It was so interesting at every turn and not even for a second did my attention waver。 I felt like I was starting to piece things together every 10 pages and then Holly Jackson turned around and said not on my watch, loser。Holly Jackson is going to be my go-to author to satisfy that need for "holding on for dear life" and "clenching your insides" kind of thrill。 I'm gonna be shouting off the rooftops about this one to everyone I know。 WHAT A STORY *chef's kiss*。 。。。more

Thoughts: This was one fast-paced wild ride! There were twists I didn’t see coming, when I was sure I knew the answers, and I loved the atmospheric, dark setting。 I like how Jackson chose to tell this story just from Red’s POV。 We learn early on that she has had a traumatic past with her mother’s death but do not know what in fact happened and how that has shaped her life。 Getting her steam of consciousness as all the chaos occurred was a great way to watch the events unfold。 I mainly read this book but listened to a few chapters on audio and definitely enjoyed that format as well! I really enjoyed reading this book; and one of my only complaints wasn’t having enough time to read it in one sitting。 One the way to spring break, Red and her friend’s RV broke down in an abandoned road, but what they don’t know is that their is a killer among them, and thawing of them has a secret worth killing for。 I really enjoyed reading the character development and how showed their true colors in time of a stressful situation。 Also the twists and turns kept me guessing until the end。 This I really enjoyed reading this book; and one of my only complaints wasn’t having enough time to read it in one sitting。 One the way to spring break, Red and her friend’s RV broke down in an abandoned road, but what they don’t know is that their is a killer among them, and thawing of them has a secret worth killing for。 I really enjoyed reading the character development and how showed their true colors in time of a stressful situation。 Also the twists and turns kept me guessing until the end。 This is my first Holly Jackson book but won’t be my last。 。。。more

Any one of them could be a target。 All the sniper wants is the secret one of the six has, but whoever has it isn't willing to give it up easily。Honestly, I expected a much higher quality book from this author。 This is set up like a typical teen thriller (which isn't a bad thing, just not my cup of tea) except with a much higher suspension of disbelief required。 The twist was obvious from the first chapter, the characters are flat even by thriller terms, and the writing is nowhere near as intelligent as it was in GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER。 Once the six start to suspect the mafia is involved - which also happens very quickly - the suspension of disbelief required shoots up substantially and the quality of writing just didn't bring me to the point where I could do that。 AS GOOD AS DEAD also required a pretty high suspension of disbelief, but the writing was strong and it was the last installment in an exceptional trilogy so it was easy to go along for the ride。 I personally will not be adding this to the reread queue but I would recommend it for teens who have exhausted other thriller options and are big fans of the genre。 FIVE SURVIVE reads a lot like a less diverse combination of THE GIRLS I'VE BEEN and ONE OF US IS LYING, and is perfectly palatable if you don't go in with the expectations of it living up to the author's previous works。 I do not recommend this book to adults。 。。。more

I had mixed feelings about this stand-alone, possibly YA thriller, which is the first book I've read from Holly Jackson。 Five Survive follows six friends who get into an RV for a long road trip from Philadelphia to the Gulf Coast, hoping to celebrate high school graduation。 However, things go wrong when they break down in the middle of nowhere, none of their phones have any service, and they realise there's a sniper shooting at them。 One of them won't survive the night。。。 but which one? And why I had mixed feelings about this stand-alone, possibly YA thriller, which is the first book I've read from Holly Jackson。 Five Survive follows six friends who get into an RV for a long road trip from Philadelphia to the Gulf Coast, hoping to celebrate high school graduation。 However, things go wrong when they break down in the middle of nowhere, none of their phones have any service, and they realise there's a sniper shooting at them。 One of them won't survive the night。。。 but which one? And why have they been targeted and held hostage? I was hoping for something along the lines of Riley Sager's silly but compelling Survive the Night, and to be fair, Five Survive absolutely delivered。 After a slow couple of chapters, it's gripping, and I loved the atmospheric setting, as the group shelter in the RV and try and figure out how to evade the sniper。 And while I often become frustrated with thrillers that deliver 'shocking' twists for the sake of having twists, ignoring any kind of narrative logic, Five Survive avoids this trap。 Jackson manages to deliver a good number of twists while dropping breadcrumbs that hint at the final resolution, when everything comes together in a rather satisfying way (though be prepared to suspend disbelief)。Why the mixed feelings, then? In short, I found the whole cast intensely irritating, with the sole exception of Reyna - and this was probably just because she had less screen-time than the others。 For the first half of the novel, Red's narrative voice came close to spoiling the reading experience。 I wanted to like her, and I appreciate that Jackson was probably trying to show the impact of trauma by closely following her scattergun attention span and obsessive thoughts, but this didn't work for me。 In this kind of novel, I really want a practical, capable protagonist, and Red makes some dodgy decisions in the first half of the book that are backed up by authorial fiat, but would probably go wrong in real life。 She comes into her own far more in the second half of the book, but I found it hard to overcome this bad first impression。 I also thought the group dynamics were rather simplistic, with Oliver presented as an uncomplicated 'bad guy', and this made the book more predictable than it should have been, as we know whatever Oliver wants is wrong。I would recommend this book, because it's a more-than-competent thriller, and other readers clearly haven't found the characters as frustrating as I did - but I'm not sure I'd rush to pick up Jackson's next, as I felt this was saved by its premise and plotting。 3。5 stars。I received a free proof copy of this novel from the publisher for review。 。。。more

And I wonder if she has some memory problems for forgetting often because I don't recall the story explained if she was born with it or she started forgetting because of what happened with her mom。 I liked A Good Girl's Guide series more than this story。 However, in this story, I liked the win win strategy。 。。。more

So excited to read this because。。。 a new YA thriller from Holly Jackson! While this is, yes, a YA thriller it does feel quite a bit different from A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (which I loved except for the third)。 Good difference or bad difference I think will depend on the reader; for me, this book worked in some ways but also annoyed me in others。 The premise of the story: a group of teenagers get trapped in an RV in the middle of nowhere by an outside shooter and are forced to reveal secrets So excited to read this because。。。 a new YA thriller from Holly Jackson! Holly Jackson is really really good at putting her characters in awful situations lol。 I found the characters really hard to connect with and found one in particular insufferable (in a bad way)。 I know he was written to be annoying。。。 but if it weren't for the page-turning plot I would've had to stop because he was SO awful。 I also found the overall plot a bit nonsensical and wasn't a huge fan of the crime in general, but it lead to an interesting conclusion。 Still, this was a page-turning read and a good book to get me glued to reading。 It was fun guessing some plot points correctly and learning others as they were revealed。 While this isn't my favorite, I'd still recommend this to Holly Jackson fans, especially if you're looking for something with a creepy vibe。 thank you so much to netgalley for the arc! 。。。more

Honestly, I adored the author’s previous books so this one was disappointing to read because of how much it lacked。 You could honestly skip 30% of the book and still figure out the ending。 Sadly this one was a miss for me, though I would definitely recommend giving the author’s works a read because her other series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is fantastic。(view spoiler)[Oliver killed Reyna’s secret boyfriend and they never told anyone, Simon’s uncle sells stolen cars, Red lied about being the witness to a major crime case and is in fact taking money to lie about it, Arthur is working with the gun man to reveal who the real killer is in the case his father is being framed for and who he knows Red is lying about。 Red is taking money from Oliver and Maddy’s mom because she wants Red to help her win the case so she can become DA while she in fact killed Red’s mother, a Captain of the police force Maddy knew her mom killed Red’s mom。 (hide spoiler)]*Thanks Netgalley and Random House Children's, Delacorte Press for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review* 。。。more

A stunning thriller that takes place over 8 hours。 Five Survive kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page! Thank you so much Delacrote Press for the arc!

What a page-turner! I flew through this one。 It's a very simple setup: six friends are traveling in an RV together when suddenly they are attacked by a sniper who tells them they can't leave until one of them reveals the secret they are hiding。 The book takes place over just a few hours in a very contained setting and the tension and plot are just the characters talking with each other to try and figure out who is keeping a secret。I was impressed by the pacing of the reveals, and it never felt o What a page-turner! (4。5/5 stars)Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC。CW: One of the characters is grieving the violent death of her mother, and this topic definitely comes up a lot throughout the book, so warning for grief, loss of a parent, and gun violence。 。。。more

This is my first by Holly Jackson and I wholeheartedly agree that she writes bingeable books! I finished this one in 6 hours, staying up entirely too late on a Monday night。I don’t read a lot of YA so I struggled with the juvenile conversations and actions more than others might。Thank you Netgalley and and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review in exchange for an honest review。
